TYPES OF IRISES


Bearded

Miniature Dwarf Bearded (MDB) up to 8" - tiniest and first to bloom
Standard Dwarf Bearded (SDB) 8" to 15" small, sturdy and multiply well
Intermediate Bearded (IB) 16" to 27", not fussy, great for borders with bulbs
Border Bearded (BB) 16" to 27", smaller version of TB but like IB in height
Miniature Tall Bearded (MTB) 16" - 25", dainty and delicate (table Iris). Rita’s very favorite type of iris!
Tall Bearded (TB) over 27" to 40" or more - the QUEEN OF the MAY
Historic (HIST) Introduced over 30 years ago - HIPS Historic Iris Preservation Society
Aril (AR) comprised of Oncocyclus and Regelia from Near East, grow in warm, dry cli mates, sparse beard, most have dark signal spot below beard with veining and speckling
Arilbred (AB) hybrid crosses of aril with bearded iris, easier to grow but with Aril features - over 28"
Aril-Med 8" to 28", crosses of aril or arilbreds with dwarf or medians
Novelty Bearded Irises multiple petal (more than 3 standards and 3 falls), irregular color application (common in Japanese), variable pattern (Joseph's Coat), flat -shaped (6 falls with beards), spooned, horned and flounced.
Reblooming Bearded Irises even at Thanksgiving - love it!!
