Amoena - White standards, colored falls - Reverse Amoena -
more rare combination of colored standards with white falls.
Beard - a
line of fuzzy hairs at the top of the falls
Bicolor -
standards of a different color than the falls
Bitone -
standards and falls different shade of the same color, falls
usually darker
Reverse Bitone
- when the standards are the darker shade.
Blend -
combination of 2 or more colors, smoothly or unevenly mixed.
Falls - the
lower three petals of the flower.
Flounces -
appendages extending from the tip of the beard like little petals.
Hafts - the
top part of the falls, where it connects to the rest of the flower
Horns - an
extension of the beard turned upward like little spears.
Luminata -
style arms and hafts are white or yellow, remainder of the flower
is washed with color, with paler veins.
Median - an
iris in the following classifications: Border Bearded,
Intermediate Bearded, Miniature Tall Bearded, Standard Dwarf
Bearded
Neglecta -
blue or purple bitones, the standards being the lighter tone.
Plicata -
stippled, dotted or stitched margin color on lighter ground color,
some muted others very striking, changing all the time.
Rebloomer -
an iris that blooms in any other season than/after its normal
spring bloom period - Remontant.
Self -
standards and falls are the same color.
Signal -
patch of contrasting color at the top of the beard.
Spoons -
appendages extending from the tip of the beard shaped like spoons
Standards -
the upper three petals of the flower
Style arms -
the small stiff segments just above the beards.
